Vernon, with a population of 43,000 people, is situated at the north end of the Okanagan region and is surrounded by three beautiful lakes; Kalamalka, Okanagan Lake and Swan. The beauty of the surrounding countryside and the excellent recreational facilities such as Silver Star ski resort, have helped make Vernon a year-round vacation spot.
In the spring, orchards burst into bloom, launching the start of the visitor season. Vernon is particularly known for its apple crops, but this mountain-lined and lake-filled valley, is host to a wide variety of agriculture. Estate wineries are steadily popping up along and off the main highways. Also popping up is many new houses in Vernon and neighboring communities, especially for older big-city Canadians looking for milder winters, beautiful scenery and fresh air. |
